Company Overview:

Professional Linguistic Upper Studies (PLUS) operates English as a Foreign Language (EFL) programs across the world. Our junior summer programs allow students the opportunity to take English classes and explore the surrounding regions while staying at North American colleges and universities.
 

Position Overview:

Instructors deliver lessons to advanced-level international high school students based on the specialized curriculum provided. Instructors report directly to the Centre Manager.

 

Course Description:

This course is aimed at developing speaking, listening, and negotiation skills, improving fluency and interaction, expanding vocabulary and expressions for practical use, and learning business writing skills useful in an academic and business context.

This course includes practical lessons designed to bring theory into practice through guided project work and group discussions. Students will learn about business etiquette and establishing a business. At the conclusion of the course, each team will give a final presentation, using public speaking skills learned and practiced throughout the course, to pitch their business idea and promotion plan to the rest of the class.
 

Schedule:

The employment period is during Summer 2020; dates may be flexible based on instructor flexibility. Most students are with the PLUS program for two-week sessions; PLUS runs overlapping sessions during the month of July. Peak enrollment is usually the last two weeks of July.

Students receive 30 hours of instruction over the course of 8 classes. Classes are Monday-Saturday, on average 5-6 times a week with Saturdays required. Classes are held 8:30am to 12:15pm.
 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Deliver well-prepared lessons to diverse classrooms of international high school students in a professional and engaging manner
  • Review the curriculum provided by PLUS to adequately prepare for each lesson; instructors should be prepared to supplement the curriculum with their own materials, as appropriate.
  • Practice appropriate classroom management techniques to ensure a safe, comfortable, and engaging learning environment for all students
  • Attend course-related field trip(s) with students, as instructed
  • Collaborate with the Centre Manager and PLUS Head Office regarding instructional methods and the PLUS curriculum
  • Attend training session and any additional meetings organized by the Centre Manager and/or PLUS Head Office
  • Maintain frequent and professional communication with the Centre Manager
  • Perform other duties, as assigned

Qualifications and Desired Skills:

  • Authorization to work in Canada required
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • University degree required; Master’s preferred
  • Prior teaching experience required
  • Knowledge of the specialty course subject matter required
  • Experience working with multicultural and multilingual classrooms strongly preferred
  • Command of Google Drive (including Google Sheets and Google Slides) and the Microsoft suite of products (including Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) strongly preferred

Successful candidates will be self-motivated, organized, professional, and adaptable, with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
